Strategic Research is a central function at Alleima supporting all product areas where we work with long-term strategic goals. The team strength is to combine our knowledge and collaborate in several projects to reach the next level in materials design. The projects we run are knowledge building, in a lean product development manner, and after reaching proof of concept we hand over the projects to product development for large scale ramp-up.

Your role:
As an R&D Specialist in the New Alloys team you will be part of a group with deep knowledge from several different technical areas important for successful alloy development such as advanced material analysis, thermodynamic modelling, welding metallurgy, corrosion science and hot working. The strength of the team lies in combining our skills and working together. Your mission is to identify, drive and participate in alloy development projects, knowledge-building pre-studies or other investigations in line with Alleima’s strategic research plan. You present your research results in internal technical reports and in steering group meetings. You will be an important contact person for material development and represent Alleima in external research projects in collaboration with institutions and universities.


Since our projects and assignments are based on technical requirements from both external customers and our internal organization, an essential component of your role is to collaborate and communicate with several stakeholders and maintain both qualitative and healthy relationships. Your profile
We are looking for someone with a Master of Science (MSc.) degree or a PhD in material science, materials engineering, technical physics, mechanical engineering or equivalent along with several years of materials research experience from the steel industry, preferably in product- or process- development of stainless steel or Ni-base materials. You are familiar with common characterization techniques in material development such as LOM/SEM and have a good understanding of the relationship between microstructure and material properties. Experience in research project management is a great benefit in order to be successful in this role.


As a person you are analytical, structured and thorough, with the ability to identify new projects, critically review results and complete what you start. In a determined and independent manner, you plan and drive the work forward but are flexible when the situation requires it. Your communicative manner allows you to easily share your competencies and knowledge with the rest of the team. All in all, you are a person who can do both hands-on technical work and move projects forward in a pedagogical and inclusive way. As we interact in a global environment, we expect you to have excellent communication skills in English, both verbally and in writing. Swedish is advantageous.

Your mission
In this position, you will be an integral part of the Kanthal Heating Systems organization and drive Business development within the application area Steel. You will be supporting the Sales, Product & Technology functions to create customer offerings within this area. It is an exciting and strategic new opportunity to develop new business and solutions, to drive electrification of the steel industry. This will require an entrepreneurial mindset, and a drive to accomplish tasks quickly while working through ample "grey area".
Close cross-functional collaboration over the entire BU Heating Systems unit as well with R&D, will be required to be successful in the role.


Key Objectives
• Understand and define offering to market, within area of responsibility based on customer requirements including identifying potential areas for new product development.
• Act as commercial specialist internally in the organization towards different functions.
• Research competitor activities and prepare reports for sales force and management on upcoming opportunities and potential threats.
• Interact with existing or potentially new clients to promote Kanthal’s products, services and capabilities within steel sector.
• Project management of customer projects
• Secure and continuously develop in-depth knowledge of processes and applications within steel sector
• Identify and develop technical solutions based on customer and market needs within steel sector
• Initiate and participate in development projects within Steel portfolio
• Coordinate internally with other functions to drive and develop portfolio within steel
• Technical support to Sales for test installations and customer trials


This position will report directly to the Head of Business development Steel BU, Heating Systems and global travel is a natural part of the job.

Your profile
We are looking for someone with a Masters degree or higher within Engineering and or Metallurgy, combined with relevant 4-7 years in technical or commercial roles. You should have a strong technical background as well as good insight and understanding of Business. Experience from the Steel or Aluminium industry is highly valued. This role requires strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal.

Din roll:
Rollen som Applikationsingenjör är knuten till vårt Tekniska Center och del av Materialutvecklingsgruppen. Utvecklingsarbetet drivs i projektform där du som applikationsingenjör antingen är projektledare eller delprojektledare där de uppsatta testerna i Tekniska Centret är ett av flera delresultat. Ditt arbete förväntas leda till nyutveckling respektive anpassning av befintliga produkter som bidrar till våra kunders övergång till ökad hållbarhet genom elektrifiering av processer.
Materialutvecklingsgruppen, som är en del av Forskning och utveckling, består av 14 personer som arbetar som högkvalificerade ingenjörer och laboratorietekniker. Gruppen jobbar inom fyra olika områden: metall, keramer, additiv tillverkning och applikationstest- och utveckling i vårt tekniska centrum. Våra materialspecialiteter är stållegeringar, nickelbaslegeringar och MoSi2-baserade keramer.

Självständigt kunna planera, genomföra och rapportera forsknings- och utvecklingsuppdrag och projekt.
Ge tekniskt stöd till våra produkt- och försäljningsorganisationer samt bidra till kunskapsutbyte inom gruppen.
Arbeta med individuella uppgifter och uppdrag samt ansvara som projektledare för forsknings- och utvecklings­verksamhet.

Din profil:
Vi söker dig med minst högskoleexamen med flera års arbetslivs­erfarenhet av laboratorie-, applikationstestning och/eller beräkningsmetodik där aspekter som flöden, hållfasthet, termodynamik eller elektriska egenskaper har betydelse för applikationen. Erfarenhet av CAD eller motsvarande, samt simulerings- och beräkningsverktyg är meriterande liksom industriell arbetslivserfarenhet inom relevanta områden. För att lyckas i den här rollen är det också viktigt att du behärskar svenska och engelska i tal och skrift.
